I'm a Brisbane-based filmmaker, student, artist & dog-walker.
Creativity is a flow state; I express my self through mixed media video, visual art and photography.
I'm drawn to flora, light & shadows
I'm studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film, Screen & New Media) and plan to graduate at the conclusion of 2025.
My dream is to travel and live overseas whilst capturing it on camera.

Hi my name's Milena.

Mentorship and Guidance
My first mentor was my mum. As an artist herself she encouraged me to explore and experiment with my creativity. From paper shoes to sewing clothes, each experiment helped develop my multi-faceted abilities. I am drawn to textiles, painting, film, photography and mostly observing the world around me.
Creating
Making things has always come naturally to me and this flourished in school. Whilst I enjoyed Literature and Science, I was more drawn to the beauty of their existence. Reading and photography sparked my interest in cinema. I used these mediums to escape into my own world and found comfort in this. In my senior years I made the decision to study film & television - despite never having touched a camera and without the plan to continue this journey. I fell in love with the ability to capture my own world, demonstrating to the people around me how I see things without words. I found myself filming eveything on my phone (see my camera roll).
Tertiary Study
Having the opportunity to study beyond school and receive a degree is an opportunity most of my family didn't get. I was initially drawn to studying a dual degree of law/justice, as I was interested in social justice. After one semester I transferred to a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film, Screen & New Media). Whilst I was passionate about law I felt most productive and energised when I was creating. Having almost neared the end of my degree I feel privileged to have experienced the study of art. Whilst I am nowhere close to understanding my practice entirely, my degree has refined my style. I feel as though my understanding of what I want to pursue in my career is more developed.

I spent some time in 2021 in Pescara visiting family. Above is my Zia Elena; my Nonno's sister. Life in Italy is very different to our home here in Australia yet I feel connected to the land there. Seeing Zia cook, talk and sing just like her brothers and sisters here in Australia was a fulfilling experience.
A few winters ago I visited northern Tasmania. We hiked Lake Dove, Cradle Mountain; walked Cataract Gorge; and explored the town of Launceston.
